Group Classes to be held at the Brookings County Outdoor Adventure Center
2810 22nd Ave S, Brookings, SD
Simple and Fun!
Our goal is to help you and your puppy or dog have an effective, simple and fun training experience that helps you on the path to have a great family companion.
Group classes are a great way to learn basic manners AND how to deal with distractions in a safe and controlled environment.
We limit class sizes so that each team can receive personalized attention during each class.
To enroll in a group class, you will need to fill out an application prior to joining the class. Even though many people think a group class is what their puppy or dog needs, a group class can be overwhelming to some puppies and dogs. Dogs, just like humans, can experience anxiety and/or fearfulness in a group class. We want you and your dog to be successful. Having an owner and dog stressed to the point that they can’t function or are over responding to the class environment is not what we want you to experience. The application helps us determine if a group class will be beneficial to you and your dog. If we feel a group class is not the best fit, then we will contact you to discuss other alternatives which will be less stressful and more successful for you and your dog.
Group classes are appropriate for friendly puppies and dogs who are not afraid of or aggressive towards dogs and people.
Is my dog a good fit for a group class?
Not all dogs do well in a group setting. Even a small class size can be overwhelming, too exciting, or too scary for some dogs. We have individually tailored private lessons that can help these dogs and will be happy to discuss this alternative with you.
The group classes will be held at the Brookings County Outdoor Adventure Center in a big open space inside. Some dogs may find this pretty distracting and may benefit from private lessons, focusing on dealing with distractions, before they can begin a group class.
Other dogs may be a sensitive soul who are worried about life in general, especially new places and faces. Putting them in a group class is unfair to them and can make their behavior worse. These dogs need to know they are in a safe environment so that they can build and grow their confidence. We have structured programs that help these dogs, and their people learn to handle life better.
Group classes are NOT open to dogs who are aggressive or show aggressive behaviors towards or humans, or dogs with a bite history (including air snaps) to dogs or humans. A group setting will put these dogs over threshold and is a safety and liability issue for all concerned. If you do have a dog exhibiting these behaviors, please contact us and we can assist you in getting help for your dog.
If you are worried or unsure if your puppy or dog is a good fit for a group class, please contact us! cts4dogs@gmail.com We can set up a time to talk on the phone to find the best fit for you and your dog.
